Aztec Butte

Aztec Butte in Canyonlands' Island in the Sky district has some very interesting ancient Puebloan dwellings built into a series of natural sandstone alcoves found along the north side of the small butte. It's fairly tight in here and there's not too many angles for a good shot, but it's a pretty neat little place.

The thing I remember the most about this day was the weather. The air temperature wasn't too much above freezing, yet when I was in the sun and sheltered from the wind it was definitely t-shirt and shorts time. But, if I found myself in the shade (such as found in this alcove) and if I was in particular exposed to the cold northern wind (which was - you guessed it - blowing straight into this alcove) it was a rather chilly experience even with a sweater and jacket thrown on. Kinda of a fun outing having to juggle all of the required wardrobe changes. Heh.
